Why Clean Plate Campaign?

Why Clean Plate Campaign?

Food is PreciouS

In Singapore, most of us are fortunate enough to forget that food is a valuable resource because it is readily available in abundance. As a result, even when there are less fortunate families who go hungry, 755,000,000 kg of food waste was generated in our tiny island in 2023.

We can do better.

Impact

Environmental Impact
of Food Waste

The world is producing more food than we can finish. Yet, food is being wasted in huge amounts in Singapore. Wasting food unnecessarily taxes the Earth’s limited resources such as land, water, and the use of fuel and packaging materials accelerates global warming. The uneven distribution of food also means that less fortunate households are going hungry while food is being thrown away.

Everyone has a part to play in reducing food waste!

IN THEIR OWN WORDS

"I think the Clean Plate Campaign is a very meaningful one because it instills awareness in our students about minimising food waste."
Jerry Yang
Teacher
"Habits are inculcated at a young age, and the practice of not ordering or taking too much food and finishing everything on one's plate should start in primary school. Together with support from Food from the Heart, we look forward to working together to promote healthy habits amongst our students and to make a difference in our future."
Cheong Ye Ling
Principal, Kong Hwa School
"We have limited amount of food in our world. We should treasure our food because many people don't have food."
